Takin' it easy

Today I took it easy. I figured my legs should get a little break to recuperate. I ran about a mile and half and it took about 20 minutes. Then I did some ab stuff and stretched a lot. My legs have been super sore the past two days.

On a separate note, does anyone know how the whole changing of clothes and shoes works during a triathlon? I mostly think it would be awful to run in the same thing I swam in, talk about chafe-age. It would also suck to run barefoot.

  1. That is awesome that you are training for a triathlon! Congrats! Looks like you are doing great.

    Garrett, you are so awesome!

  2. People usually wear a pair of spandex biking shorts or tri shorts (which have a little less padding than biking shorts) underneath their wetsuits - the shorts will dry off while you ride your bike.
You can keep a towel at your transition station and dry off quickly, especially your feet if you want to wear socks while you ride your bike. Some people will keep their shoes clipped to their bike so they can just hop on the bike and put the shoes on while they ride. This is pretty unnecessary unless you are really looking to shave seconds off your time.
You will be dry by the time you change in to your running shoes. I've never had any problems with chaffing, but you could also use some chamois butter if you need it.
Way to go Gee, keep it up.

  3. Jake, did you wear clip in shoes when riding the bike? If so, did you have to change shoes before running? I am asking because I just have the straps on my bike pedals (nothing fancy) and I was planning on just wearing my running shoes during the bike ride. Is that kosher?

  4. Garrett, I've worn used both clipless pedals and pedals with straps. You will be fine wearing your running shoes with the straps. Also that will make your transition from biking to running much faster. The other trick I do is I keep some water at the transition point so that I can rinse off my feet before drying them to put on my shoes. I do this because I don't particularly enjoy riding with rocks and dirt in my shoes.
